I love my work, meeting so many horses (and their people!), working out how to help each one and seeing them become more relaxed and comfortable.

About Me

I have horses “galloping around my brain” (according to my partner), I am always thinking about one horse or another, about different aspects of hooves, movement, hoof protection, or anatomy. My phone is filled with hoof photos, horse photos and usually has a few links open to things I want to look up or study later!

I have been involved with horses my whole life, I went through pony club and competed in multiple disciplines; dressage, eventing, show jumping, showing – even side saddle! I have always had an interest in training and trying to find a better, fairer, way. In my early twenties I worked starting and re-training horses of many disciplines, including the “wild” St James horses, sport horses and racehorses.

Then, for a few years I had a change of direction and worked in the outdoors, instructing in self-development, teamwork and leadership, with the bush, mountains, caves and rivers as our classroom. This has had a huge impact on how I work with horses, from the teamwork and leadership aspects, to physical aspects of performance, fitness, and the effect of how equipment fits, and carrying weight.

But throughout this time I always had my own horses, and they led me back to wanting to work in the equine world. I love giving back to horses, improving wellbeing; building strong functional hooves, relieving tension and restriction in the body and facilitating healthy biomechanics.

Riding History

I have ridden horses for as long as I can remember! I had some lovely schoolmasters as well as some more challenging ponies and horses. I competed in dressage, show jumping, show hunter, eventing, showing, even side saddle. I have always had a particular interest in training, I had instruction from a range of top trainers, but love the challenge of puzzling things out myself.

When I left school I worked with horses, starting, training and problem solving. I got to work with many different types of horses; jumpers, show and dressage horses, race horses, even wild horses from the St James Station.

These days I don’t compete, I enjoy riding, training and going on adventures with my own horses. They are also very patient while I experiment on them with new bodywork techniques, hoof care ideas and training techniques!
